Guide for collectors

How to organize a watch collection with a dedicated app.

A useful watch collection app should do more than list brands and references. It should keep the history and private records of each watch organized while making the collection easier to browse and present.

Start with a record for each watch

A structured record should identify the brand, model, reference, year, movement, case details and serial number. Photographs, purchase information, documents, warranties, accessories and private notes belong with the same watch, but sensitive fields should remain private.

Separate records from presentations

Collection management and sharing are different tasks. Private records may contain acquisition costs, serial numbers, service documents and valuations. A presentation should contain only the photographs and details selected for its audience.

Keep the collection visual

Cards make a collection easier to recognize and browse than rows in a spreadsheet. They can also support curated groups by brand, style, purpose or personal significance.

How H4icons approaches it

H4icons is a premium iOS app in development for watch collectors and watch sellers. It is designed to combine private watch records with visual cards and controlled sharing, and will be available soon through the App Store.
